Dion Atkinson is a surfer from South Australia.
Dion is a surfer from the metropolitan beaches of South Australia. He grew up surfing along the Mid and South coasts.
One of only two rookies to make the WCT in 2014, Atkinson is the real underdog in this competition and has been preparing for this moment his whole life. The 28-year old surfer spent the last 7 years tackling the WQS, but the grind has finally paid off as Atkinson realizes his dream and becomes part of surfing’s top flight.
It all came down to the bitter end of The Billabong Pipe Masters, the final competition on the 2013 WCT event schedule, when on Wednesday December 11th Joel Parkinson knocked out Dusty Payne in the third round. The result meant that Atkinson’s spot on the WCT was solidified coming in at number 31 in the World and number 9 on the Qualifying Series.
